#Which Wifi smart sockets to buy?

I have tried three different brands and none are "the yellow of the egg" as we germans like to say.

  • one is a Xiaomi that works but is a chinese plug and cloud
  • one is a Tuya brand that also works good but cloud (I know there is a local Tuya integration, haven't tried it yet)
  • one is a refoss brand with Tasmota firmware that is local and works but constantly looses wifi connection

I would like to have a reliable local wifi connected smart socket that can measure power. Are there any brands you can reccommend (available in germany would be good too :D)

Are you completely committed to WiFi? If not, I could give you good examples of Zigbee and Z-Wave switches which do that reliably, albeit with some additional cost and setup

If you want to go wifi, have a look at Shelly ones

@jovial pollen I do have a zigbee usb stick somewhere that can be made into a general base station I read, but I haven't looked at that. Are the zigbee ones reliable?

My Third Reality plugs are great, full disclosure it's the US version, but very reliable and double as Zigbee mesh routers

@sour gull I have heard of shelly, they are on my list right at the top, just don't have any information about the experience and reliability

They are good, work nicely with home assistant but are a bit quirky as they reset their internal stats on power loss sometimes

@jovial pollen If I go the zigbee route I'll test them. They seem to be available in germany.

@sour gull I'll try them, lets see how they do
