I'm wondering what i need to get to get matter support working on home assistant? im used to the zigbee2mqtt experience. And how far is the range in house on average? Will they work well regardless of wlan and zigbee running? no interference?

Im asking because i want to buy a matter-supported lock, and zigbee locks are basically non-existant for home assistant.

thanks!

Device provisioning to matter is normally done using your mobile device (cell phone), via the bluetooth on that. So you don't need any bluetooth on the HA server itself.

#

If the matter devices you're planning to add are matter over wifi, you don't need any other hardware - it'll use your existing 2.4ghz wifi.

#

If you're planning to get a matter over thread device, things get trickier. You'll need to get a thread border router.

#

The thread border router can either be the HA server itself, using a thread compatible radio like the ZBT-1, or it can be an external device like some google or apple hardware, for example.
