#Opinions on Tuya smart switches?

its best to avoid anything that has tuya in it in general
this is especially true for their wifi stuff but also for zigbee even tho some of those are good enough. its a gamble
those look very similar in design to the ones aquara (h1) sells which is a rather trustable brand for zigbee devices
The Tuya Zigbee stuff, if it's been added to z2m or ZHA seems to work ok, at least from my very small sample set. If you find one that works, there is no guarantee the next one will though, they like to change small things, so we are always tweaking to try to maintain compatibility. The same device will also be sold by 100 different resellers and each one will be just slightly different.
I looked at the Aqara stuff but every switch seems so expensive. I’ll check a couple of vendors to see if I can find a better deal
smart gear is usually nothing you should save a buck on
it either bites you by not working properly, having to replace it early or burning down your place
Hi @viscid thicket,
I've heard no reports of burning down, but everything else I agree with there. If you have low expectations on how long it lasts and the features all actually working as expected, Tuya is OK. Be prepared to tinker and swear at it a bit before you get what you expected, though.
If you want it to just work, go for a name brand like the ThirdReality stuff that I like.
I also have a few Tuya though, because I like to tinker. You get what you pay for, not what the description says you get.
I asked because I already had a few smart plugs from Tuya and they just worked out of the box. However I’m assuming light switches might be more complicated
I’ve gone ahead and bought an Aqara switch to try out
