Hi everyone 👋

I am interested in HA Voice Assistant and I was wondering how it could be possible to do it in a VM?

Or if I need to purchase Home Assistant Green and go from there?

I already have the Connect ZBT-1 👍 although I'm confused as it's not first if it's needed?

"Connecting to your existing smart home platforms lets you instantly use your devices that communicate over Zigbee, Matter, or other smart standards. When your smart home grows, you can use Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 (not included) to add Zigbee and Thread radios (Thread support under development) or one of many third-party USB devices available to expand Home Assistant Green with other smart standards like Z-Wave or Bluetooth."

Isn't exactly clear 🤷‍♂️

Does it work out of the box or not with these protocols? 🤷‍♂️

Is the Voice Assistant limited to one room, or?

Lastly, will any Bluetooth receiver work and can it be powered by PoE?

I guess the bonus of using Home Assistant Green is:

Low Power
Built for one job
Doesn't go down during server reboot, updates etc - no lag starting back up!
Works with Voice Assistant? 🤷‍♂️

The green does not have a zigbee radio.

Ok, so you recommend running on a VM on my Unraid server?

I need a new graphics card then as I can't hibernate mine due to the AMD Reset Bug 🤦‍♂️

Not a fan of unraid but yes. I think VMs are superior in almost all cases.

The blue (odroid n2+) actually has a replaceable emmc module which uses a board-to-board connector, just to nitpick 😄

My graphics card adds an extra 100+ watts to the server and electric prices in the UK are insane!

So anything that I can do to lower electric usage I'm doing ASAP as they are going up again within weeks 🤦‍♂️🤬

Well the server is already running so it saves power and hardware costs to run HA on that.
Do you pass the GPU through too? Because if you do it's a common issue: https://www.google.com/search?q=gpu+passthrough+power+consumption

It wouldn't add 100 W just by plugging it in would it? At idle 10–30W? Guess it depends on how old it is
