Hi there, basically what the title says: I have a (dumb) fragance diffuser (see pic), there is a button on the bottom of it: one press to turn on, a second press to enable another mode, and another press to turn off.
Would it be doable to make this thing smart with an ESP and (not too much) wiring? Or is there another way? Thanks in advance!

Without pulling it apart and having a... Probably 30% chance of being able to fit suitable electronics in a place not designed for it, you might want to consider buying/making a button pusher

Hi @shadow saffron,
Or the tuya wifi ones not that much more, and you can usually flash them or change out the MCU. Advantage is there's room for the esp inside. I have 2 of these, one old one flashed with tasmota esp8266, another I picked up for $3 at a charity shop, and another one that I think is dumg from a charity shop for $1. I use the one, the others are projects.

Thanks for the answers
A button pusher seems to be the best solution, is there a very small one known that I can hook on an ESP? I don't need a servo to on/off like your example, just to push
there are plenty around, search for fingerbot or switchbot
anything you make will probably use a servo though, basically the simplest way to poke something
I have switchbots. Mating them to round is not a thing without a 3d printer. These need a REALLY solid base to stick on and not pop off, but go ahead and try...
If they seperate between black and brown there, it's not happening me thinks.
And then the house mate will say:
What is that big (black or white) box glued to the side of that for. I wanted to turn it on but that ugly thing was in the way.
My buttons still work...
I have a 3D printer so that’s not an issue, however every button I saw was too big. Can’t I find a very small thing (I’m basically looking for a retractable small spike, but no idea about the name of this thing) that I can hook to an ESP (again, newbie here I have little experience with esphome/tasmota so I don’t know which one to pick), put this stuff in a small enclosure under the diffuser and call it a day?
