By default does the Voice PE act as a bluetooth proxy? If not can it be configured to do so through ESPHome Builder and what would I loose by doing that?

That's unfortunate but explains why I'm still having issues with my Ember mug though it's right next to the Voice PE.

You will have issues with Ember mug anyways, their integration always makes me angry on HA restarts 🙂 it's the slowest one.

For me it just looses connection at some point and never reconnects again but my base station is not that close ...
I had it deactivated for ages now and retrying because I thought the Voice PE might be a proxy just revealed it's even worse now.

Well you can take 5-bucks ESP32 and flash it with dedicated proxy software. 🙂
