I'm pretty new to home assistant myself, but i have heard a lot about what you can do with it and how great it is from my grandpa (yea i know grandpa, he likes tech) and i feel like starting my own now. But i dont quite know where to start since i dont have that many devices, here is a list of the ones i currently have:

  • A volvo car compatible with volvo on call which i can integrate with HA
  • a samsung smart tv + soundbad
  • a 3d printer with octoprint
  • some lights outside which is controlled by a tellstick net (would need help integrating this into HA)
  • also a nibe f750 heat pump which can be integrated via a arduino or raspberry pi

So my question would be if this is enough to bother with building a smart home or if i should go ahead and buy some shellys to control my lights (i do have enough electrical knowledge to do this)
Any answers would be greatly appreciated 🙂

That sounds like enough to start, especially if you'll run Home Assistant on existing hardware. You can always grow to add shellys later

there is so much to do in homeassistant this is plenty

If i may give a few tips

  1. Stay away from RF, it does work but RF doesnt talk back so it doesnt tell HASS if its on or not

Its also a hassle to setup

  2. dont use wifi devices, fun and easy but they take up space from your router so unless you know how to use Vlans i would not recommend

  3. if you know how to create Vlans try ESPhome devices it can be daunting, but they are way cheaper then the pre build devices
