#scene.create doesn't persist across restart

So I've found that scene.create snapshots don't persist across restarts of HA, and that this is intentional. Alright.
But turning lights off and back on as they were (and reliably so) based on presence detection strikes me as a, if not the, fundamental home automation task.

How do you all achieve this? Clearly I must be missing something. (I've also raised this over on the forums, just polling for ideas here as well.)

I think there's talk of making them persistent. In general, I would say that 'as they were' in a Home Assistant context would be a scene or a script or something that you could simply reapply

I couldn't find that talk, frenck/balloob replied on Mastodon that it's intentional ๐Ÿ™‚ Where is that, I'd love to upvote?
People have this annoying habit to fiddle with lights to their liking and don't like it when they revert to what the hard-defined scene says just because they went to take a shower, I'm getting some pushback on that (from myself as well) ๐Ÿ™‚

Ideally, you'd figure out what's causing people (including yourself) to manually fiddle with the lighting and try to automate that ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't recall where I saw that

That seems like trying to redefine a missing reasonable feature as a user error ๐Ÿ™‚ I get it, I do that professionally as a sw eng as well, but ...

Feel free to submit a feature request

But IMO the point of automation software is...automation. Having it conform to your expected/desired behavior is a lot of what it does

If you have a feature request for the frontend you can open one here, for Home Assistant itself please post on the forum. All other feature requests should be made to the developer of that custom card/component.

There's already one, I've upvoted it, and was wondering if people had work-arounds, because this felt fairly basic. Guess not ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!
