dose someone here have a recommendation for a temp and hygrometer, that's easy to implement into home assistant so i can graph my temp and humidity and calc water ppm and such?

Any preference on protocol?

Is this for room readings or plant/soil readings?

My personal preference is zigbee and the cheapest you can find on aliexpress.

+1 for ZigBee as well

specifically SONOFF SNZB-02D, others that I tried didnt work due to Tuya shenanigans

novel quiver
#

I have some from tuya and the don’t work I will order some from sonoff ty

rancid folio
#

careful, some Sonoff are Tuya inside.

#

so stick to the SNZB-02D, with some luck the insides have not changed since I ordered mine

Aqara's sensors are reliable

#

TAPO is also a pretty good one, cheap, reliable but you do need a hub for them but after you have that you can turn it all local with MATTER easy peasy

#

Anyone know a good alternative to the sonoff snzb ? The humidity sensor is really bad on it

rancid folio
#

a friend suggested the aqara temp and humidity sensors

eternal swallow
#

depends how accurate you want to be

#

here you can see few

#

all in the same room, tuya, aqara, mijia and a built one

#

there is another one next to the tuya an mijia which was converted to zigbee that shows 19.1

#

tuya is 18.5

#

mijia is 18.4

#

aqara is 19.2 and 18.85 diy one

I have a Shelly, Aqara, and sonoff next to each other in the bathroom and they are all within 0.2C of each other

fluid tiger
#

in general i would say that for small sensors like temp/humidity, door sensors etc the aqara ones seem better built than sonoff. i have had too many problems with battery holders not making contact etc on sonoff, requiring me to fiddle with them way more than i like.

rancid folio
#

On my Aqara ones the battery door plastic is so soft that opening it with a coin mars the surface

#

Here is my current test setup

#

And the check in ratio over 61 minutes for the aqara, sonoff, Shelly, and a DS18B20 connected to the emsesp — highest resolution and fastest response on changes, but also not updating on no changes (other than the Sonoff)

SNZB-02 and SNZB-03 (presence sensor) both keep failing here and i have to open them, bend the metal parts connecting to the battery and put them back together. they will soon get replaced. they are very good sensors, just let down by this problem. should i hope that if i buy sonoff again they will have fixed this? mine are a few years old, but have had this problem since quite early. the temp sensor has been offline for ages now. i just don't bother with it anymore.
same with SNZB-04 door sensor. just keeps failing

converted to bluetooth these are supposedly good, but there are six different versions and not all of them are good for conversion

Okay, those seem to be sonoff price

if you have a 3d printer and a modicum of soldering skills, an esp32 in d1 mini format and a BME820 are cheap as chips and they can run off wall power instead off of CR2032s, and tasmota allows you to set the reporting interval to anything between 10sec and 3600sec

primal dirge
#

soldering is good, the 3dprinter no, i do not have one

rancid folio
#

hot glue gun? then you can make a simple enclosure with a simple used jar and some holes in the lid for power and sensor sticking out

primal dirge
#

i could check that haha

#

thanks

altoids boxes scattered everywhere around the house 😄

rancid folio
#

altoids boxes also works, glass jars have the advantage that they're not conductive and you can see LEDs on the D1s (-;

fluid tiger
#

altoids boxes would probably also significantly reduce your signal strength... 😛

i have had one of these running for quite a while if you want with display. i use it with the simple thermostat thing and a smart wall outlet to control heat in my living room

i suspect the temptation of the bt convertable to zigbee ones is that you can get 3 for 10 quid

magic bridge
#

I used to evangelize those Xiaomi BT ones but from what I can tell they've recently started shipping with some kind of encrypted firmware that's difficult or impossible to bypass.

#

So I'm cautious of them now, I would look at the pvvx firmware repo for the latest status on that.

#

one thing that drove me banana was the reset to repair... i eneded up soldering wires to get a reliable gnd reset connection

Wifi and Tasmota, this is for wall powered solutions (but you could add a battery circuit if you felt so inclined)

primal dirge
#

okay, i am not very experience with Zigbee or HA so... i need to try ot understand better, Tasmota is a zigbee firmware? or it needs a different integration?

rancid folio
#

Tasmota uses MQTT and connects via wifi

echo zodiac

I like the zooz temp/humidity sensor quite a bit.

Thank you!! Maybe too complex for now? :/
I'm thinking in a zigbee diy solution for temp and humidity likely no need for screen any ideas? Or projects already?

eternal swallow
#

pvx i think has some on

#

not 100 diy but at least you can play with the code

I got a bunch of MH0-C01s and they seem to do a good job with the BTHome compatible firmware. I havent tried the zigbee variant.
