Hi everyone ! I’m new to home assistant recently got my raspberry pi and was able to control a tuya device local (yay!).

Although I was able to control it via HomeKit using HomeKit bridge but my iPhone had to be connected to same WiFi or network so it could work.

Is there a way I can control home assistant via home kit through Internet ? I’m sure there are multiple ways to control home assistant via Internet, but can I control my devices connected to home assistant using HomeKit via Internet ?
Thanks !

You need a HomePod or something to do that.

That or an AppleTV

Hi everyone, thanks for the suggestion , it literally works seamless after connect your HomePod to same user as your home app

No. At least not easily. MDNS doesn’t typically work over VPNs.

For me (and from what I can tell from research), it typically won’t. At least not for what I’m interpreting this as. Phone > VPN > HA HomeKit Bridge > device. This is because most routers put VPN devices on a different subnet and don’t forward mDNS packets, which are required for Bonjour, used by the phone to talk to your HomeKit bridge.

If you use wire guard on opnsense, then you could use home assistant HomeKit over the vpn, is what I’m hearing

Because on opnsense you could have the vpn on the same subnet I’m pretty sure

You’re doing something different. Phone > VPN > HA > HomeKit > Device.

That doesn’t leverage the Apple Home app or Bonjour at all.

At least from the phone, over the VPN. It does from HA to the device.
