Learning how to setup for first time, totally new here. I got a few power monitoring sensors and a OpenEVSE I would like to see energy used. Don't know how to monitor whole house meter yet (Centron CL200).
so first question , reading https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/utility_meter/
I found editing the YAML code easier to understand then using the settings webgui and did not find any good recent step by step videos on how to.
so currently at the step of adding the time based automation. I put the example code in automation.yaml but got red flag warnings, ok, so I thought editing YAML would be easier but anyways, want to use this tread to show the struggles a newbie is going though.

The issue is you've added a second automation key to the file. Just delete it
Will also need to change indentation and stuff
That said, I find it incredibly funny to see "I find the yaml easier to work with than the ui editor" and "the yaml doesn't work" in the same post
yea i know
i tried the gui and was dead end, just lost
all the youtube videos are old and does not match whats on current HA
I cut and pasted the code from instructions, and expected it to work, I have to go learn more about YAML.
The automation editor is one of the best bits of ui in all of home assistant imo
But if you go into it you can turn on yaml view from the buttons in the top right corner and just paste it there (still need to delete automation and reduce the indents) but then you can flip between yaml and ui and see what's going on
trying to find this yaml view, at the automation dashboard?
ah , found it
yes this will be good
I am looking at https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/automation/yaml/ I don't see anything that mentions what a 'key' is.
is it id:
