#Reolink integration, doorbell, subnet limitations, HA integration?

Just got a doorbell, mostly working, but all my cameras go on a separate subnet/vlan with a firewall between them and other devices including home assistant.

It appears by (poor) design reolink has some restrictions on use across a subnet, e.g.

https://community.reolink.com/topic/6726/unable-to-access-reolink-ip-cams-from-different-vlan

To me the restrictions just look like broken code, as many things work fine (e.g. ping) but the web gui is flakey (e.g. paints first screen, but you can't actually log in). Lots of lost packets show up in a packet trace.

Anyway... the HA integration SEEMS to work (though the video is slow and fails often, but I do not care). I need HA for things like doorbell push.

Has anyone looked into these subnet restrictions to understand what they really restrict, and the main question is: Will HA integration be affected by them?

Frankly I want to just return this and not start down this road if it's going to be a continuing battle trying to work around their bad network stack, and hoping people who have been down this path might have more info?

Hello @wary forge,
Segmented networks are not officially supported within HA.

HA is designed and expects a flat subnet to work as intended.

This is because every segmented network is different for IP's and number of segments and firewalls and sharing rules and about 650495849085 other things.
This does not mean you can't use them or that they can't be made to work, it means that to get them working you are the support structure on your own subnet(s) and if you are asking for support in the future, you should disclose to the volunteer helping you that this is in use as it often changes the correct answers.

Please keep this in mind when you are trying to do this kind of thing.

So... thank you I think? I understand networking just fine. My issue is that Reolink appears not to. I was hoping someone might have headed down this road before. I didn't expect to be chastised, but this is your playground, your rules. My apologies.

Just letting you know, it may not work BC of things beyond your control is all.
