So after much pain, I finally got this to work yesterday. Today it wasn't controlling the heating nor showing the correct live values. I restarted home assistant and it started working again. Any ideas?

Check the logs for any errors that might've popped up from the integration
Explaining in some more detail about what you tried and the result would be helpful, too. Do you have automations that you believe didn't apply? Were you attempting to manually control via HA?

I saw nothing in the logs. I have since turned on debug log level. I was just looking at the widget on the lovelace overview -

it was showing something like the above while the heating was at 20 degrees and set to 20 degrees

this has happened again. if I adjust the temperature in the widget, the thermostat changes, but if I change on the thermostat the home assistant widget doesn't update. the home assistant widget also has the wrong current temperature. I restarted and it came back, but failed again next day (today). I disabled and reenabled the google nest integration and now it's working again. I'm not sure when it does it, and the log viewer doesn't seem to go back very far.
