I am sure this has been asked but I am not seeing a post for it.

tl;dr Fresh home looking for recommendations on devices overall 😄 My goal is not to have to pay multiple subscriptions though ie nest and ring subscriptions

I just bought a second home and am looking to do a much better job than I did the first time lol. First time I locked myself into Google Ecosystem and Phillips Hue this time I want to go with Home Assistant. So starting fresh I have a Home Assistant Yellow all setup and my end goal is to have wall mounted tablets with Home Assistant in each room able to answer doorbell and control the house. I am looking at the following:

  • Flair to balance heat in the home (last house my office where i wfh was always 10 degrees hotter than rest of house)
  • PoE Cameras
  • Alarm System (that can be check on remotely)
  • Smart Switches - I am thinking Lutron switches as in my first house they just worked flawlessly but unsure how they work with HA
  • Color changing bulbs - I loved my phillips hue bulbs but absolutely abhored their crap bridges. Ideally I want to be able to control them with a smart switch on the wall (lutron) and change colors via voice. I also did not like the phillips hue wireless controllers
  • Smart Thermostat - I have 2 thermostats in my house
  • Smart Locks - Currently have a Yale lock (only smart device in home)
  • Smart smoke/co detectors - I like ones without batteries I have to replace as some of the ceilings are vaulted. I used Nest protect before but I heard they are no longer supporting them and they have subpar inclusion with Home Assistant
  • Smart Electric panel if anyone has a recommendation on one that works. A buddy had one and it was useful when he travelled he could kick things off and it was great when we looked for a draw in his house (this is a nice to have eventually)
  • Smart water shut

So, you probably want one topic for each of those, because otherwise the details are going to get confused

Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:

  • Which country you're in
  • What your budget is
  • What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
  • Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)

Also all those things 😉

With Hue bulbs you can ditch the hub and go direct with ZHA, you'll get a better experience
