No, it's an overgrown IM platform. Discord cannot be indexed by search engines, making it near impossible to find a fix to a problem you're trying to solve
i search google and discord if I am in a room around that topic.
Discord's search system is also infamously broken and nonfunctional
I can search something I sent not even five minutes ago and it won't return that message
There’s also nothing wrong with people using the actual forums. The problem you’re describing exists too when people discuss issues in open channels that aren’t indexed by search engines either.
I do agree that if people wanted forums they would go to the forums. If they wanted Internet Relay Chat with some advanced feature like video, audio and screen sharing features they would come to Discord. I think the two should be separate(my own opinion of course).
I think the problem is that IRC like chat is bad for support because people are on intermittently and active channels move quick pushing unanswered questions or sight. Sure, a hard line stance could be taken to say “All support goes to the www forum”, but there’s also advantage to having a redirect that is on platform and doesn’t require a different account and app.
Personally, I like the approach here better than current alternatives.
The advantage of the forum being built on an instant messaging system is that communication within a topic is at realtime while www forums generally are not.
