2 questions about the Kwikset Home Connect 620 smart lock

  1. can someone explain the difference between "constant" and "timed" mode?
  2. is there a way to disable auto-lock? I want to have a way to temporarily disable it if I'm expecting a bit of foot traffic. I tried setting some of the parameters to 0 or just leaving them blank when updating them (both via the Actions tab of the developer tools and also in Z-Wavs JS UI), but I've had no luck.

I somehow got the parameters to reset, but I'm not really sure what I did. It's working now though 🤷‍♂️

I have these notes for the 620, I forgot where they came from but may be useful:

To turn Auto-Lock On/Off follow the steps below:

  1. Press the “Program” button once.
  2. Press button “A” once.
  3. Press button “2” multiple times if needed to reach the desired state. (Green is enabled; Red is disabled)
  4. Press the Kwikset button once.

To change the Auto-Lock time delay, please follow the steps below:

  1. Press the “Program” button once.

  2. Press button “A” once.

  3. Press button “3” once.

  4. Press the number button once that corresponds to the desired time delay:
    1 - 30 sec.
    2 - 1 min.
    3 - 3 min.
    4 - 5 min.
    5 - 10 min.

  5. Press the Kwikset button once.

AFAIK it's not a zwave parameter

Timed operation means automatically locking. Changing to constant mode should keep the device in it's last state.

What I'm saying is that as far as I know, kwikset did not make changing these modes possible over zwave. It seems to be something you can change locally on the keypad only.

From what I saw, I could. I didn't touch anything on the keypad.

What did you see?

Here's the first few options

exotic ibex
#

hm interesting. I don't have that in ZwaveJS

Here's what I see in developer tools

From what I understand, Z-Wave JS UI gives more options or something, right?

HA doesn't support all the lock configurations. Might be available in installer mode.

exotic ibex
#

I would have thought the number of recognized parameters would be the same.

ivory trellis
#

And apparently the action

#

it's not config parameters

#

Door Lock CC v4 from the screenshot

exotic ibex
#

I guess I have a lot to learn about zwave 😂

ivory trellis
#

That action has been around for awhile, I don't have a lock so haven't used it. The new "installer mode" has some support for lock features

exotic ibex
#

What is "installer mode"

ivory trellis
#

For installers only. 😂

exotic ibex
#

I installed HA, does that count? 😂

Add to configuration.yaml:

zwave_js:
  installer_mode: true
#

Then there will be a new menu on the device page

#

"Expert UI" I guess it what is enabled by "installer mode".

How's the experience for installer mode compared to using the Z-Wave JS UI plugin?

ivory trellis
#

Doubtful it's as good. Try it and let us know.

#

It's very limited in functionality. ZUI is not limited in any way.

late coral
#

I just find ZUI a bit overwhelming, but I think I'm starting to get used to it.

ivory trellis
#

This installer mode is meant for passing Z-Wave certification and not for regular users. Though the latter may find benefit in some cases.

Interesting. I can't think of a single use case for doing it like that 🤷‍♂️

rain berry
#

Ah no you wouldn't put it in constant mode. You'd put it in timed mode

#

Unlock the door, after the configured time it locks again automatically
