#What reset cycle to use for utility meters?

so I am setting up a utility meter to track the cost for a heater. my utility company has three different tariffs. so when I'm setting up the original / parent utility meter the reset cycle seems to be anywhere from 15 minutes to a year. if I want this information stored on the energy dashboard, what reset cycle would I choose and why? I don't seem to find really clear instructions as to what I should choose and for what reasons.

You can create any reset cycle you want using an automation

#

The energy dashboard shows the total energy for whatever period you have selected

#

(so thats independent of the reset cycle of the utility meter)

So if I reset it daily it still keeps history?

#

I know they are just collectors, why would you want a shorter or longer reset cycle?

#

I guess you could use a daily on total kWh to figure out how much you have spent on hydro for the day. then each night it resets I guess?

because you may want to display usage between sessions

#

or some people have billing cycles which are not full months
