#Is it possible to play music using voice assistant?

So I have
official spotify integration installed and working.
I have Alexa media player installed and presumably working.
I am using a voice assistant (wyoming, m5stack, google gemini).

having zones etc set up correctly I ask assistant to play music and it says its will play music on my office echo (which is correct) but nothing ever starts. if i ask for a specific band it tells me its unable to choose music by a specific artist.

So either what I am trying to do isn't possible? or i've not got it configured correctly somehow.
any pointers please?

#

do i need spotcast or something to do this because spotify integration doesn't work like this?

The beta is already in its final phase, if you can’t wait πŸ™‚ You can join it under updates and easily leave afterward if needed.

sorry, what do you mean is going to be included in decembers update? the ability to stream spotify? or that music assistant is becoming included by default instead of hacs?

#

thats great though, thanks I can wait a day or so πŸ™‚

#

ah didn't see that page detailed whats in 2024-12 , i thought it was announced in the livestream. i see that its music assistant thats going to be included. Well i'll look at getting a container of that installed today tehn

ok so apparently music assistant doesnt work sending music to alexa devices, which has completely buggered me. is there any way of doing this at all for me ? i see there is spotcast but i've set that up and not getting any joy with it at all since its all yaml based and its not giving me any indications in any logs about why its not working 😦

#

surely someone has got a voice assistant working with (or at least tried and knows whats what) amazon devices?!

AMP has historically been a bit of a pain from what I have seen πŸ˜„

yeah, so it seems, i've set it up (attempted to) about 4 times in the past few years and each time there have been problems so i gave up and waited a while to try again. it just seems constantly cursed.

#

jesus, and yet again. broke. it was kinda working when i managed to get it installed yesterday. just updated to 2024.12 and its buggered again. typical

No, Alexa doesn't play any music but that one it wants to play. Sorry, no luck here. I sold all Alexa devices in the end πŸ™‚

i'm sorely tempted to to be honest. do google devices work better in this regard? offloading about 10 echo devices to get any decent amount of money back will be tricky i guess though 😐

ah, damn. typically i've prob missed out on any discounts which google home have over black friday. and to replace all my alexas with googles at the currrent rrp pricing is going to be about £500 😦

can also wait to see what comes of the voice hardware on the 19th πŸ™‚

Paulus hinted that those can also play music

#

19th is the Hardware announcement from HA for their voice sattelite hardware πŸ™‚

#

or launch I think

ah, bit crud time of the year to do that .. but cool. hopefully going to be inexpensive and better than esp32-s3-box-3 sort of thing

I've just been hanging out waiting for the full voice -> spotify pieces to fall into place. Looking forward to voice hardware.

#

I have sonos speakers where this matters though, not alexa. Which music assistant does use. I'm stopped fighting with it a year or so ago to wait until the pieces fall into place. Adding items to a grocery list and then playing music are really the only voice integrations my wife uses, so the top of the list for me πŸ™‚

#

I was super happy to see music assistant come into play with a spotify integration though, since it has wide ranging device support.

exactly, as a houseyhold we only ever use alexa for music playing really now days. the days of asking it things have long passed given how absolutely useless she is at answering anything. the concept of LLM is a huge draw for the possibility of starting to use it again for questions etc.

I'm curious what the 12/19 announcement will contain!

The device i linked is using same firmware as new Nabu device will use. Also same XMOS chip (so similar microphones) and same DAC.
Reportedly, Nabu PE device will have 12 LED ring, dial for volume adjustment, speaker. Basically next iteration of voice satellite device, but very similar on things it can do to Respeaker Lite.

Awesome. I'll be buying something here soon, so if there is an option to purchase their device, it will be my next toy for messing with voice stuff.

There will be Nabu device, also FutureProofHomes SAT1 https://futureproofhomes.net/
Also i'm thinking of sharing my device, built on Respeaker.
So yeah, there will be plenty of options.

# digital oasis Hi <@299947094674767872> can you share the schematic? Is it the seed studio ReSp...

Hi! You can check enclosure and firmware for Respeaker+XIAO-S3 on my Github: https://github.com/formatBCE/Respeaker-Lite-ESPHome-integration
I made another device, but it's using Devkit-C instead of XIAO, rotary encoder and LED strip (mainly for former two things i needed more GPIO pins that XIAO couldn't provide).
