An early batch of the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 USB stick had/has overheating issues (see https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2024/10/02/connect-zbt1-issue-and-replacement/ ).
The blog post mentions that the used voltage regulator has a fault, and this fault only manifests when the USB stick is connected with specific mainboards.
As I'm about to use voltage regulators in an upcoming personal USB-powered ESPHome/Home Assistant project myself, I'm curious for a more detailed technical post mortem. E.g. which voltage regulator brand, model, and batch was used, why does the issue seem to only happen with some USB controller hosts, etc.
Can someone shed some light into the overheating issue so that the hardware community can learn from it?
