#Matter over Thread Commissioning Fails at "Can't reach device."

I have a Nanoleaf Essential Thread A19 bulb and I can't add it to HA for the life of me. I bought a ZBT-1 to start my thread network, configured it in the HA hardware section, and added the Matter (BETA integration). After syncing the thread credentials and trying to set the devices up, it always gets stuck on "Can't reach device. Make sure your phone is connected to WiFi." My phone is connected to WiFi, of course. I'm using a Pixel 8 on the latest version of Android to do the commisioning and IPv6 is enabled on my Verizon Internet Gateway.

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried resetting the entire thread network, just in case, but to no avail. Also made sure the Nanoleaf was on the latest public firmware.

Make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network (not 5GHz) as it is this network that the device will be told to connect to.

(even if it's a thread device i have encountered blocking issues if my commissioning phone was on a 5ghz network)

Home Assistant hasn't even come into the equation yet. You're stuck within Google Play Services' Matter commissioning process.

#

The fact that you're using your ISP-provided gateway as your router screams red flag to me.

Sorry, I told you incorrectly, as my statement was about a Matter-WiFi device, but yours is a Thread device.

with a zbt-1, it sounds like the step you're getting stuck at is that the phone can't connect to the thread device through the otbr running on your ha machine

#

is the phone on a wifi network which is in the same subnet/vlan as home assistant?

#

if anything in your networking setup is preventing the phone from being able to resolve mdns queries answered by the thread border router, or preventing your phone from seeing ipv6 router announcements from your thread border router, i think that could cause the error message you're seeing.

Verizon Internet Gateway

i don't see why a 5G modem precludes you from using an external router

"Before you can add Matter-based Thread devices, your phone needs to know the credentials of your newly created Thread network.

To share the credentials with your Android phone, open the Home Assistant Companion app.
In the Companion app, go to Settings > Companion app > Troubleshooting, then select Sync Thread credentials.
Follow the instructions on screen.
Result: You will see a confirmation stating that Thread credentials from Home Assistant have been added to this device.
To share the credentials with your iPhone, open the Home Assistant Companion app.
Go to Settings > Devices & services, select the Thread integration.
Select Configure under Services.
At the bottom of the preferred network box, select Send credentials to phone."
