Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Tado X Smart Radiator Thermostat and was wondering if I also need their hub so I can connect / control it via Home Assistant.

You need a compatible Thread Border Router and you must be running the Python Matter Server addon.

I am new to the Thread, if can I ask what is Thread Border Router? 😄

#

I have the homepod mini

Thread Border Routers are to Thread networks what Coordinators are to Zigbee

#

If you have a Homepod Mini you already have a Thread Border Router

Can I run this on GrapheneOS?

there is another thread on here from like 2w ago about someone trying to set up tado/Matter devices with GrapheneOS and it did not work out there. The whole low level Thread/Matter setup process on phones is somewhat OS-involved, with Google Play Services on Android playing a major role. YMMV.

#

Once the initial Thread setup is complete using the devices from HA should not be affected though. Might be worth considering a 'burner phone' running stock Android for the initial setup.

if these are tado SRTs, I don't think those expose battery state via Matter yet.

Is there way to update the firmware without their hub?
