I just got home assistant green and a sonoff zigbee dongle and the dongle doesnt fit into my HA green usb port cause of the position of the power cable... has anyone run into this? can i use a usb extender in the HA green?

Yes, indeed. It is encouraged to use an extender.
The RF noise that comes from the USB port hardware and the RF from the other chips on board tend to interfere with radio dongles plugged into the back of any computer. A meter ot more extender is encouraged.
