I need help finding what this type of switch is called. I saw a video on one a while ago but for the life of me I can’t remember who makes it or the type.

It was a smart wall switch that doesn’t connect to an actual light/ wire. Button pushes are controlled by the hub or HA triggers/ automatons.

I replaced some fans with smart fans that I had to wire to always be on. I just want a button switch I can control the fan and light with.

most smart switches have a "detached" mode available for smart devices

There are also devices like the Shelly Plus I4 digital input controller (mains powered) or the Philips Hue wall switch module (battery powered), which just detect button actions without any real switching.

Thanks, think that will help, @west quail by chance know if the Shelly will work with US romex 12/2 wiring?

Don't think you can fit 12AWG into a shelly terminal

For the UL rated Plus i4:

0.5 to 1.5 mm / 20 to 16 AWG

For the i4 Gen3

0.2 to 2.5 mm / 24 to 14 AWG (solid, stranded, and bootlace ferrules)

I've found 14AWG seems like it fits pretty well in a typical shelly, even though it says 16. whoops nevermind that's for the UL version, says 14AWG

The Gen3 has improved terminals.
