I am new and trying to look for recommendations on a presence / motion sensor for home assistant. I am looking for something that is good for the price. Additionally, probably want some on battery and AC. I see some recommendations for Aqara but wanted to check if there were other suggestions. Thank you!

Motion sensors you can find very decent ones like from hue, among others but for presence detection it's a very mediocre experience

Honestly for presence your best bet is WiFi. Zigbee presence sensors tend to flood the mesh with data causing instability/performance drops.
Lots of people like the msr2 or mtr1 from Apollo automation. I’ve had good look with those and the Aqara fp2– all are WiFi.

These are also WiFi @exotic lark and I think use the same sensor as the mtr from Apollo, but you’ll need to verify that.

Yeah I meant to give a nod to your point on WiFi being superior for presence! I've used zigbee ones and can confirm they nuked my mesh 🤷♂️
