#Zigbee alternative to Hive / Nest thermostats & gas boiler controllers

is it? I didn't know or is it a particular model of Hive that does work with Zigbee?
I thought it's only controlled via the app
Almost all of the recent (last 5+ years) models of hive thermostats can be connected to zigbee2mqtt just fine - it's what I use in my house - and I presume they work with zha as well
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/#v=Hive
You connect to your zigbee coordinator rather than dealing with the hive hub which only exists to bring the zigbee stuff into their ecosystem
I'm in a simular situation. If I understand it right, I just need a Zigbee adapter/hub to replace the Hive hub, set up zigbee2mqtt and Mosquitto (already got the latter in Docker on my Synology where it's also running HA in Docker)?
Then somehow hook up the Hive thermostat/receiver to Zigbee?
From there I want to start adding other Zigbee devices. I could just have the Hive hub as well but seems to make sense to consolidate with one, and probably avoids interference?
Do I lose the Hive app functionality though and have to drive it all through HA? Not a bad thing especially if it's one less cloud dependency.
- Yes
- Yes - the somehow is in the zigbee2mqtt page I linked
- Yeah I prefer a single network unless there's a good reason for it.
- Yes you'll lose all hive app functionality
