#looking for zigbee, zwave, or homekit based wall switch

Inovelli is pretty much worldwide as is Aqara and Shelly. If you are looking for just an in-wall relay, I'd go with Shelly.
Inovelli has switches, which are really good. Aqara has both switches and a relay.
@ebon burrow Mostly I'm looking to get state from the switch. I have a outdoor light that I recently replaced with a high power one that needs one of those 0-12V dimmer modules. So the dimmer in the wall is no longer compatible. But I'd like to keep the functionality. Its a Kasa HS220 but happy to replace it with something that can be esentially disconnected.
Where are you in the world?
The only 0-12V dimmer that I know of is the Shelly dimmer/relay. It goes behind the switch in the gangbox. I don't think you could/should use it with a Kasa switch though.
US
and in this case it would go in the light
because thats where the 0-12v is lol
So, you just need a switch that supports decoupled mode? Do you have a neutral wire there?
And it needs to be a dimmer switch as well?
I suppose not, but the light is bright, so dimmer support would be nice directly but I could avoid it I suppose
and yes i have a neutral
The only dimmer support that I know of that also supports dimming is the Inovelli Blue: https://inovelli.com/collections/smart-home/products/zigbee-matter-blue-series-smart-2-1-on-off-dimmer-switch
Or, a Shelly Dimmer as well https://us.shelly.com/products/shelly-plus-wall-dimmer?_pos=3&_psq=dimmer&_ss=e&_v=1.0
i'm a bit of a novice here, how does disconnected work here?
it seems like i could do disconnected setup in almost any smart switch?
Most of them support it, but not all of them.
Inovelli calls it "smart bulb mode" and others call it "decoupled" mode. Basically, it just disables the physical relay in the switch.
so the buttons work but nobodys home?
Yup. The buttons just trigger automations in HA.
The downside to this is that if HA is down, you have no physical control over the light.
That is one benifit of the Shelly... Since it's WiFi, even if HA is down, you can still hit the device in a browser and still control it.
I bought an Aqara D1 for that purpose, but I haven't attempted to install it yet because it says max 220vac 50hz on the box, and I don't know if "max" means it's US-compatible or not.
well, in my case i have two UPSes keeping HA and stuff running for a couple hours
so not concerned there
i will have to try this
I'm reading now there's one other brand martin jerry?
Uhhhhh... the D1 isn't in a US version yet (that I know of). I would be really surprised if it works with 110v wiring.
Welp... So much for that $25.
Martin Jerry doesn't have a native integration with HA. They can be flashed with Tasmota, but... meh. I've never heard good things about them.
got it
lol been there, done that.
well sounds like Shelly or Inovelli then!
There are Aqara switches as well, which is what I have, but their rotary dimmer just looks so dumb to me..
You can "simulate" dimming with them, but it's janky and not fun to write automations around.
cool i'll check it out
