You can, but you need to use something in the middle for both the discord api and home assistant api.

The other way around, well, that sounds like givinng poorly secured social media system a backdoor to control your house. Def not a supported activity, but you do you friends.

You're not wrong. But what the user is looking for is to control HA from Discord (which I would never, ever recommend) and why I left my answer vague.
