#Zooz ZEN17 Universal Relay wiring

Do I have the ZEN17 wired properly? The toggle function in HA isn’t exactly functioning as expected. I have to toggle it multiple times to open/close the garage door. Also it disables the opener button. Powered by the USBC cable, but I had it disconnected for the photo.

I wired mine directly to the opener but should be the same

#

Make sure Param 2 S1 Terminal: Input Type is set appropriately.

rocky ferry
#

I have it set to garage door

#

But no wires are connected to S1 on the relay itself so not sure why that mattered in the instructions

quick tendon
#

I don't understand that statement either. I have a door sensor wired there.

I think they mean R1

rocky ferry
#

How do these controls work?

quick tendon
#

First controls both relays, second controls individual ones.

#

I disabled the two I didn't need.

#

They also are careful to mention:

The relays need to be in the off position before changing any of the settings or testing the device.

#

In the past they required excluding and re-including when switching mode, I guess that's no longer necessary.

rocky ferry
#

Yeah I saw that. Guessing I need to revert all settings and try again

quick tendon
#

Set to just Garage or Garage + door sensors?

rocky ferry
#

This is super frustrating to setup. No matter what I try, the control toggles take 2 toggles to open/close

#

I wish there were example photos and videos on this setup. It’s nothing but diagrams online

quick tendon
#

That pretty much sounds like a toggle switch instead of momentary doesn't it?

#

Is the switch in the UI toggling on and off, or staying on?

rocky ferry
#

So I have these settings correct?

#

Just to say again, I don’t have any wires connected to S1 or S2

quick tendon
#

I think you should turn off 10 and 11

#

Looks like you have the mode on which uses those inputs

#

Either that, or switch the input type to "Garage door mode (momentary mode)"

#

If you're using a wired NC sensor on the S-C input side of the ZEN17, set parameters 2 and 3 to value 11 instead, then re-interview / re-configure the device. This will create 2 additional open/close entities for you to monitor the status of your garage door. Finally, set parameters 10 and 11 to value 0 to disable the input trigger so that the sensors changing state won't trigger the relays controlling the opener.

#

The UI doesn't show the actual numbers, but that's what you are configured for.

#

If you don't use sensors you probably want just plain garage mode.

Set the switch type for R1 (and/or R2) to the garage door mode under the switch input type setting (Parameters 2, and 3 to value 3). The relays need to be in the off position before changing any of the settings or testing the device.

@quick tendon parameters 10 & 11 keep turning themselves back on

#

I’ve setup over 30 other devices and this is the worst z wave device I ever worked with

#

Probably best I reach out to Zooz directly. I appreciate you trying @quick tendon

quick tendon
#

are the relays currently in the on state?

Fixed by a firmware upgrade to v2.10 for anyone that ventures in this post.

  • Fixed a bug: When parameters 2 and 3 are set to value 11 (garage door mode for the relay/momentary contact and door sensor type for the input), the garage door mode for relays was not working when triggered from Z-Wave UI.
  • Fixed a bug: When parameters 2 and 3 are set to value 3 (garage door momentary mode), the garage door mode for relays was not working when triggered from Z-Wave UI.

I'm having the same issue, with the firmware 2.10.0 (Where parameters 10 & 11 won't save being toggled off)

Zooz Support said

"Our technicians were able to replicate this and have confirmed that at this time, any settings that are a toggle that you can switch left to right or right to left are not saving; the issue is limited solely to the Home Assistant platform. We recommend reporting the issue. Our team will follow up with the Z-Wave JS team on Monday; however, since this is an open source platform, it doesn't come with any type of dedicated tech support. Instead, their developers asked us to refer customers to the community forums for help and to report issues on GitHub and Discord and we recommend reporting the issue with logs for their team as well."

Have a driver debug log of the configuration changes you can post?

#
  1. Create driver debug logs as a file (see here for Z-Wave JS UI, see here for HAOS add-on).
  2. Re-interview the device
  3. Change the configuration settings
  4. "Report a potential bug" at https://github.com/zwave-js/node-zwave-js/issues/new/choose
  5. Fill in information and attach driver debug logs to issue (drag and drop file, not copy/paste text)
  6. Include comment from Zooz tech support

Zooz reached out to me about this, but I haven't seen driver logs yet.

#

An log with a failed attempt to change the parameters should be enough

vital raven
#

I'll submit it to github if you would like.

quick tendon
#

There aren't any attempts to set it in the logs. Did you enable logs, then try to set it?

#

Purely an HA problem. In rare form Zooz is completely right this time. 😄

Was just gonna post that 😁

quick tendon
#

When did it break, 2024.10?

versed idol
#

I have no idea

#

I just noticed it wasn't working

#

and fixed it

#

because my device wouldn't work

#

Neat that zooz is running/testing HA installations though.

#

You can workaround this by using the manual set config action.

quick tendon

I confirmed it does work in 2024.9.
