hey guys im new to hass and i just started to create my own dashboard, in the default dashboard the person entity has a nice square icon but when i try to add person in my own dashboard it becomes a rectangular bar how can i get the icons from the default dashboard?

The card on the left is a picture-entity card. The card on the right is an entities card.
You can choose what type of card you want when you add it.

how do i alter size?

You don't pick size directly, but in the default dashboard the picture-entity cards are put into a grid-card which scales them down.
So if you put it into a grid w/ 3 columns, each card in the grid is reduced to 1/3 size
