I'm looking at a couple of smart door knobs and it looks like a lot of these work with Smart Life, which HA supports. However, to get WiFi integration and not just Bluetooth, they usually require a hub. Is this the norm or are there other options that don't require a separate hub?

Here's one I am currently exploring: https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-Biometric-Control-Thumbprint-Apartment-Silver/dp/B0D1KFGKNF/?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=pd_hp_d_atf_ci_mcx_mr_ca_hp_atf_d

Fairly common. WiFi is a very power intensive protocol so it's rare to see devices that aren't connected to mains power use it, they'll instead use zigbee, zwave, ble etc and have some option to upload with a hub to WiFi

If you have an existing hub/coordinator that works with whatever protocol they're using you might be able to use that with it instead

Hmmm, so I wonder if I should look for a zwave capable door knob instead for power efficiency

So these door knobs don't say what gateway is needed to make this work with wifi. So I wonder if I can use anything
