Does anyone here read their water meter with a system that depends on the magnet inside the meter? I can lift my meter slightly and the surface pad where the water flows through has a magnet on it, so that should mean I can use something to measure it turning, right? Does anyone do this and what do you use? Just wondering. I already know about the project to read the meter numbers, I am strictly wondering about reading it this other way.

A lot of people have used ESPHome for this: https://github.com/tronikos/esphome-magnetometer-water-gas-meter
interesting
Does this have to sit on top of the meter, or just on the side? The photos show it on the side.
it depends where your magnet is and how it spins
do you do this currently? or just helping me out by finding the link
i've been looking into it but can't easily run this due to the location of my meter requiring anything i do to be battery powered
oh. the tools thingy said my meter is compatible with the Flume device
which means that esp thing might work too
my meter is in my basement
Looks like it works you can see when the water stops the sensors flatten
yes, that's the idea
ill have to reserach more, but this seems like this might work. I am new to the ESP-stuff, so I am currently nervous / unsure about how to wire all that stuff up, like, I just get any ESP32 chip and the magnetometer and wire it to the ESP32 chip and boom done?
pretty much
ill have to look into this more. if anyone else reading this sees and has this implemented already, would love to pick your brain about setting this up
You can also go in the discussions tab on github to talk about it
