#multiple Zigbee Adapters?

Hello everybody. I am adding more and more zigbee devices to my HA instance… all through a single Sonoff Zigbee Adapter. I wonder if there is recommended limit of devices that should be connected to a single zigbee adapter and if HA supports using multiple Zigbee Adapters to distribute the traffic load more efficiently.

Thx in advance

The Zigbee integrations/implementations only support one coordinator each.
It would be possible to use different integrations/implementations (e.g. ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT) to create additional Zigbee networks. But that would need additional channels and might cause other issues. The networks also wouldn't communicate and route between each other (other than HA automations).

The Sonoff USB adapters can handle around 30-35 routing devices without too much issue. Each routing device should be able to handle 5-10 end devices. So, that would be between 300-350 total devices in the mesh. If you're above that, you'll want to get yourself a more powerful coordinator.

This is what it’s showing for me… seems like all are connected to the same receiver

Are there dedicated repeater devices I could install around the house? Any recommendation? Best would be those that don’t block the power outlet but provide a plug in addition to working as a repeater

What kind of devices are these?

Window sensors, Temperature and humidity sensors. All battery powered

#

I wouldn’t mind getting repeaters… I am planning my next smart home purchase right now

Then that's normal. You need routers.

Alright. Any recommendations on those? My Zigbee stick is that recommended sonoff thingy

Just buy some power plugs.

A recommendation is to use an extension cable.

Best would be power plugs that also are zigbee controllable… right now I do have some, but those are all mqtt. IKEA has some new smart plugs, but not sure if those work as repeaters too

Yes. Of course they would have to be zigbee plugs to help your mesh. I thought that was implied.

AFAIK the ones plugs are Zigbee, dunno if they work as repeaters though

Seems like these are the new generation and (from what I could gather) work as routers too

I’ll try to get my hands on a couple of those. Had plans to get some anyways

#

Question though: when I add these to my network, will the Zigbee devices automatically connect to nearby routers or will I have to re-configure in HA?

ancient thistle
#

The devices should find their route automatically within 24h. There are some exceptions with aquara IIRC but a re-pair should fix that.

#

I think I'll buy some of those ikea ones. Mine whine a bit.

hot saddle
#

Oh, u mean high frequency sound?

ancient thistle
#

Yes.

hot saddle
#

Yikes. That could be annoying. Are those the old ones or the new ones? Tradfi or inspelling?

ancient thistle

Neither. Tuya ones 😅

hot saddle

Ah, alright 🙂

Aurora AOne is an example of that. I had a temperature sensor in my garage that was intermittent. I plugged an AOne into a socket in the bedroom nearest the garage and the temperature sensor has been flawless ever since.

But it doesn't just provide a routing service. The socket has full zigbee switching and monitoring. You could still use it only as a router if there's nothing cheaper.
