#Does the Home Assistant companion app enable BLE tracking on iPhone?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I followed the steps here https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/private_ble_device/ to add my iPhone. They are not the easiest thing to add
I had a look at this. Do you know a way to get the IRK from an iPhone when you don't have a Mac?
All the ways that I'm aware of I've put into the wiki page here: https://github.com/agittins/bermuda/wiki/How-to-get-the-IRK-(Identity-Resolving-Keys)-for-iOS,-Android-etc but yeah, it's not the easiest thing! (yet).
In Bermuda, assuming you're using the companion app to send iBeacon advertisements, the phone should be right near the top of the drop-down list, with something like iBeacon: DEADBEEF12312312431234DEADBEE_12312_DEAF [xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx] - selecting that will track the iBeacon packets your phone is sending. If you add your IRK to the Private BLE Device integration, Bermuda will automatically find it and use that to track your phone. It's entirely possible (but not entirely useful) to use both. If you have the IRK, then don't bother selecting anything in Bermuda, but if you don't have the IRK, just ensure you select the iBeacon one in Bermuda's list to track it reliably.
Sounds like something that needs too much technical knowledge and effort to make it work reliably at the moment ☹️
No way my wife is gonna put up with it being flakey.
My partner's iPhone and iPad are rock-solid - but they are older models, and I think later devices are more picky about being in various power-saving modes - and being walled-garden products it's hard to know which ones will work and which ones give trouble. I think most people find it works easily, but I get to chat more often to folk who are less lucky! 😅
Trying out just using the HA companion app and Bermuda (without using IRK) is not a lot of work, and might be perfectly workable for your combination of devices - but yeah, harder to justify committing the time when the outcomes are not guaranteed 👍🏽
I already tried Bermuda and apparently my iphone changes its BT MAC daily causing any automations that rely on it detecting my iphone to fail every day until reconfigured 😦
