#Shelly Range Extender. Does it work for other devices?

Just got a first Shelly device, a PM Mini Gen 3. Found out about the range extender feature.

Does this allow a smartphone to use the Shelly AP for extended WiFi range? Or is this just for other Shelly devices? If so, how come it allows network access to other Shelly but not any other device?

Yes, it's supposed to act as an extender for IoT devices. Meaning, it's a low speed/low power extender. Your smartphone would likely saturate it's capabilities and/or get really bad speeds.

Well, not planning to rely on it, but since it's in my front Garden, it'd be good for the phone to still reach the Wifi in the car, which usually doesn't. And since the data coverage in my neighbourhood sucks, it would be useful.

So it should work even if slow?

It should, but I've got no data to use here to say it will, if that makes sense? Hopefully someone else will chime in that might have one.
