Are there any door sensors that will connect directly to home assistant over my local network without the need for another piece (like a zigbee facilitator)

Why would you specifically like to avoid using another stick? Zigbee and Thread are low-power wireless protocols. Without them, you'd be stuck with WiFi, which isn't very useful for battery-powered sensors.

Technically, your WIFI hub is a coordinator, same with Zwave dongle, zigbee dongle, rf433 receiver, and lora receiver. You would have to hook hard wires back to your PI or motherboard to do that without a coordinator...

Door Window sensors are tough - cause typically you have a LOT of them. Then you end up changing batteries a lot.
