I need a camera for my garage. It's in a condo. we are right above it, but the ground is concrete slabs so wifi down there is kinda iffy. So I would need something that doesn't need POE (we have outlets), and has decent radio. Battery backup would be cool if that's a thing. Movement sensor too.

I think it's always going to be a crapshoot. It depends on how much rebar is in that slab and how thick the slab is and if you are able to position the camera to be a 90 degree angle to your wifi access point (because 45 degrees on a 6 inch slab means it has to effectively get through 6 feet of concrete). Cameras have teeny radios in them, even with their external antenna it's going to be hit and miss.

Now, you do have other options instead of wifi. There are plenty of folks that make ethernet devices that run over your electrical wiring to extend your network. They may not be gigabit speeds (maybe these days they are) but you don't need gigabit for a cam feed.

You may have to really tap into that free Amazon return policy and try a few name brand cameras out (stay away from no-names, they almost always suck) and even kick the tires on a good ethernet over electrical option.

TBF, I don’t know of any cameras that are gigabit. I’m sure some exist, I’ve just never seen them.

Tbf, I'd just do a WiFi bridge using some quality APs like Mikrotik or Aruba Instant (not Aruba Instant On and not Unifi). Then you can connect whatever you want in the garage. 🙂 I used to run a similar setup between cAP ac and hAP ac 2. Also through a concrete ceiling. It worked completely fine. I fully agree with the messages above that it's always gonna be a crapshoot if you try to connect the camera directly.
