#Want to buy a Raspberry Pi 5 to get started with HA

My fiancé and I bought our first home and I want to take the opportunity to automate the house further than we currently have in our rental.

On the internet I read a lot about people being happy it's now possible to run HA on an M.2 SSD instead of an SD card. On Amazon I can find starter kits for Raspberry Pi's with an SD card. Are there any starter kits with SSD's?

I'm looking for some advise.

Honestly, just get yourself a N100 Mini PC. They come with SSDs built-in, are around the same price as rPi kits and preform way better. More horsepower == better experience.

Not that I know of, but if you only want to run HAOS on it (known as a "bare-metal" install) the instructions are the same. If you want to get a bit more involved with it, you can install Proxmox on it and install HAOS as a VM. This is the more recommended route, but it depends on your proficiency level with VMs and such.

This is the one I just purchased recently: https://a.co/d/iQXX5gb

Yup, slightly overkill, but also a good choice.

Do you have a less overkill suggestion?

Nah, go with that one. The Beelinks are preferred over NUCs, but either works well and will last you a long time.

Yeah, it shows as installed, but it also says it only has a 80gb drive. Let me see if I can find a compatible Beelink one. 1 sec.

Still good for HA with addons and such.

Hey, coming back to this topic. I think I've found a Home Assistant ready NUC with 6GB RAM and a 128GB SSD installed for €158, beware, Dutch website: https://www.hashop.nl/HAshop-Intel-MiniPC-Gemini-Lake-N4000-met-Home-Assistant?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw3624BhBAEiwAkxgTOjMXi20u7wxcxdaR9hAkRCOmrFfvr0YzSpV4qnQhx2eKGNhn-qLcWxoCfJgQAvD_BwE

Do you think this is a good option?
