Hi!
I‘m new and search for a good starting point.

  1. I read about ha green and yellow. But I‘m running in my cellar a synology 918+ with Intel Celeron J3455 quadcore 1.5ghz and 8gb ram where i could run ha on vm (or docker).
Is it better to separate the homeassistant from the nas regarding cybersecurity? I want to run ha in a different vlan.
  2. in my cellar is a unifi dream maschine and switches that are hardwired with unifi ap on 4 floors of my house. I also have cat7 outlets in each room. Can i chose smart switches that communicate via wifi to control switches (e.g. shelly) or will i not come around hubs/controllers that i have to place on each floor?
  3. i have somfy io controlled blinds. I do not want to use the somfy hubs. Is there a way to let them speak with the unifi ap? Whats an alternative?

Thanks for any input as a start for my ha journey.

I prefer Zigbee for... almost everything

If i understand zigbee correctly i would beed zigbee controllers pluged into ethernet ports since uigbee does not communicate with the wifi ap directly?

Kind of, yes

#

Zigbee is a different wireless protocol

It does not necessarily have to be connected via ethernet. USB coordinators are common as well.
