#Trying to find out what's in my untracked consumption.

I have 4 smart plugs with energy monitoring. I fitted 3 in what I thought were my 3 major consumption points in the house, but it turns out they're not.

  • Dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Studio plug (gathers several extension leads, which power 2 laptops and 2 monitors).

So I can think of 2 more places where I can try my last plug into.

  • Fridge/freezer
  • TV hub socket. This gathers HA server, broadband router, TV, 2 videogame consoles.

Not sure which one has more chances to be the culprit. Maybe TV hub?

Worried if attaching the HA server itself to a smart plug can be "dangerous". I mean, if I turn it off from HA, it will kill the server itself. The point of the plug is not that at all, and the other 3 haven't switched off accidentally at all or anything.

But still, I don't know if it's a good idea? Wanted some opinions.

Otherwise I think it's just lights around the house. There's a blender, the microwave, an oven, and an extractor hood. But none are used so much to account for what currently shows in my untracked consumption (about 75% of total).

Thanks.

disable the switch entity inside home assistant. i have both my desk and my rack on smart plugs for tracking and have their switch entities disabled to prevent accidents

if you can attach a ct clamp to circuits from your consumer unit/distribution panel then you can work your way though circuits to work out which circuits are using what power

Two ideas of where electricity could be used in your home:

Do you use a shower? Often generating heat costs a lot of electricity, if it's heated up by electricity.

Is there mechanical ventilation? This costs a lot of energy as well.

Just looking at the whole house power (wattage) over time in the history panel can give you a clue which device might be the culprit - it can tell you when it comes on, how long it stays on for etc.

I added my last plug to the TV hub as mentioned yesterday night, and while it is some of the usage, there is still some hidden usage I can't perceive.

Most importantly, seeing it's constant over sleeping time makes me wonder it must be not lights, not toaster or oven, and must be something permanently on standby. So either fridge/freezer, or all of the standby units (though most are included in the TV hub tbh).

Tbh looking at the scale we're talking small amounts of energy. It's about 70W consumption. Not a big deal, but I'm just so curious where it comes from.

fridge/freezer here pulls pretty consistent pattern of power, spike is likely defrost cycle. but it is one of the hight energy users in my house that is aways on:
