Hey guys..

Wanted to have a place to discuss tablets suitable (or not) for HA dashboards display.
What hardware spec / models are good and what aren't?

Recently purchased a rk3566-based tablet from Aliexpress. On the outside it looks perfect - wall-mountable, PoE power, etc.
I got it today and started tinkering with it - it's SO SLUGGISH, you'd have to wait 5-10 seconds when you click anywhere on a dashboard before something happens. Half the time I get "android webview renderer process unresponsive".

What tablets do you guys use / recommend? Any of them "wall-mountable" by default (example: the back of the tablet goes into a box on the wall, 2 screws and all done)?

Hopefully this would be a lively discussion that helps people find what to purchase (and what not to) in regards to wall displays for HA.

I just use cheep android Samsung tablets I got for $3 but I’m having problems with the batteries exploding lmao, kinda a me problem though since there connected to power 24/7

Cheap samsung tablets - check, but how they handle some heavy / complex dashboards (popups, animations, etc) ?

I mean the tablet I got here (the wall-mountable one) barely handles 3-4 mushroom cards ... freezing every 3-5 seconds.

His way works if it’s on 24/7 unless he does something different at the end idk I can’t watch it all without getting a headache

I'm not into the "tablets on the wall" myself, but a friend who I'm introducing to HA is like "I want a tablet in every room" ... so I'm looking for something that will work (not freeze/stutter on complex dashboards) and not break the bank (obviously).

We found that wall-mountable initially and well.. it looked alright but .. 🙂 Now I'm wondering how many tablets just "won't do" due to stuttering and what not, which is why I opened the discussion.

I see 7.90 € for a single device for fully kiosk, it's one-time fee so its not that bad..
