Hello,

I don't know if I can ask this question, if not, tell me, no problem.

In a car with android automotive:

I have installed the original android apk in NoDpi mode ( Outside the PlayStore of the car).

But when it is going to open it closes.
Do you know if this is normal?
Is it some kind of security?

Or have I downloaded a version that is not compatible?

Well, sorry, specifically the first time I run it, it opens.
You can enter the domain and the username and password.

It's when you go to enter the Dashboard that it closes again and again.

Did you install the automotive minimal build?

tawny cave
# nimble rain Did you install the automotive minimal build?

No, not that one.
Only full.

But I understand that the version you are telling me is the one that already exists in the play store of the car, right?

I would like to know if I can somehow get the original Dashboard from the web or android app.

You should be installing things via the car store if you don't have the play store

Mmmm....
The car does have Play Store. It has android automotive. New Renault Scenic.

But the version you find in the play store, they don't have any interface like Dashboard. They are just buttons.

I have put on a pendrive the full android apk.
And I thought I could use it.
As I say, it starts the application and allows me to log in, but when it goes to load the Dashboard it closes.

So there is no solution to have the Dashboard in the car?

#

The minimal version says they let you change?

I don't understand, change what?

nimble rain
#

Google does not allow dashboard access there

#

Your crash may be related to something else I found the other day. There is a PR to correct it, assuming it's the same crash.

the version found in the play store is the full version, the buttons are gong to be your driving dashboard which you will see when driving. the non-play store builds are allowed to have a button to let you switch to th dashboard when parked. were waiting on Google to let teh app bring bck that button

Mmm I understand.
But I have doubts.

I have the car since June, I installed the version from the playStore.
I didn't see any button to change the interface when stationary.
I was always shown the basic interface of the buttons.

I don't remember updating the app from the car.
Is there any version after June where the Dashboard was added with the car stationary as you are telling me?

On the other hand, yesterday I installed the minimal version via USB APK, and I managed to get to the Dashboard, but indeed, when the car starts to drive I can no longer access the application and the buttons interface does not appear either.

What do I have to do then?
I understand that for safety reasons the Dashboard should not be activated while driving.
But is there a way to have one view and the other at the same time? Dashboard when stationary and buttons when driving?

Thanks

There is nothing you have to do. If you see my previous post about Google not allowing it that's what I meant. It's not accessible in the version found on the play store because they had asked us to remove it. And no you cannot do that there are restrictions in place for that. There is a special driving interface when the vehicle is in motion. That's how it works.

No I never said that

Mm, oki, sorry

If you managed to get the minimal version installed you should be happy with that. The play store version will abide by Google's requirements.

I was actually super happy when I saw the Dashboard!
But of course, now, I can't activate some automations to open the garage when I get home, as before if I did .... by pressing one of the buttons.

The minimal application is completely blocked.

So what's the problem?
Right now I only see that:
o I have the play store app in the car that doesn't have Dashboard, but I can access the buttons while driving.

Or I install the minimal version via USB apk with Dashboard, but I can't even use the buttons in driving mode.

Ok that sounds like a separate bug. If you can really install files in the car. Get the crash log and file it on GitHub. There's is no difference in the driving interface between the full and minimal version.

Since you can easily reproduce it. After it fails on the button. Go to the dashboard. Settings > companion app > troubleshooting > show and share logs. Then hopefully it'll have the error.

But there is something that I don't think I have communicated well.

I'm not having any reproducible bugs. Not that I know of.

I see that I have two very different versions:

A Minimal apk installed via USB, which allows me to access the Dashboard with its full interface when the car is stationary. But blocking access to the whole application when the car is running.

And a version installed from the play store in the car, which has no access at all to the Dashboard, but shows a basic interface of buttons while driving.

This is versión play store 17 july 2024.

We are running in circles now I'm not sure what else to tell you. Yes there are differences in the behavior.

Ains...
I'm sorry I can't explain myself better, but I really appreciate your help.

I'm going to try to make some last questions as clear as possible, now that I'm on the computer, to see if I can translate it better.

-Is there any way to have the full Dashboard when I'm parked and be able to access the buttons (simple interface) while I'm driving?

-If not .... -Will there be such a possibility in the future? A version that shows the full Dashboard when stationary, and leaves the button interface available while driving? That would be cool, wouldn't it?

-A detail that seems strange to me:
The automotive-full-release.apk version (2024.9.4), I understand that it should be the same that I download from the Play Store of the car. However, when I installed it, this version, which only has the simple button interface, crashes when I'm driving (unlike the version I downloaded from the car Play Store, which allows me to use the buttons while driving).
Isn't the ‘automotive’ version the one downloaded from the Play Store?

Thanks again

I have already answered these several times over. So again Google does not allow it so points 1 and 2 are a no. Point 3 as mentioned earlier is probably the same error I saw where I linked the pull request that has the fix.

tawny cave
# nimble rain I have already answered these several times over. So again Google does not allow...

I understand you now.

But I don't understand, why google doesn't allow to see the dashboard when the car is stopped. I don't understand what the security problem is there.

It would be great, to be able to access the dashboard when the car is stopped, and to change the interface when the car is running.

😦

I understand that then, the possibility of installing via apk, the version that does give access to DAshboard, is something unintentional by Google? Although then, if they manage to block it when the car is running....
Anyway.... what a nuisance.

#

I was thinking that ....

I could install the Mozilla browser in the car via APK, access the dashboard via web (while the car is stationary)... and leave the Home assitant version from the PlayStore for when I need to run something while the car is moving....

Not very elegant... but at least, I'll have both.

Hopefully, you can come to an understanding with Google...and be able to change the interface automatically and safely when motion is detected or not in the car.

if you can install the minimal version then use that, most likely the crash will be fixed by next release and it will work as you like. Be happy. Most users canot sideload apps in android automotive

Hello again,

Today I received a new version of Home assitant in the car playstore, the 2024.9.4.
I thought it was the one that recovered that button you talk about here.
But it doesn't, does it?

On the other hand, I wanted to ask:
If I install via usb/apk any of these versions, will they all be blocked when the car starts driving?
I have tried two versions:
Minimal
Minimal-automotive.

I was expecting the ‘automotive’ version to have the same behaviour as the one I can install via PlayStore, but this one locks when the car starts driving (although it only has the simple button UI).

Is this because of some kind of google security, or am I doing something wrong?

nimble rain
#

yes there is a special driving interface nobody can get around, that is standard android automotive behavior

#

i dont really konw what you are asking still to be honest

@nimble rain
Question1 (see img):
those versions I mention, if I install them from the car's USB, they are blocked when the car is running.
On the other hand, the version I download from the PlayStore in the car does not lock when the car is running.
(Both versions show me the simple interface of the buttons).

Is this normal?
Shouldn't the ‘automotive’ version let me use the application even if it is installed from the usb? (with the car running??)?

Question2:
Reviewing your previous messages, in particular the one I quoted you:

I had understood that you had asked Google for the possibility of adding a button to the interface so that when the car was stopped, you could access the dashboard.
Is this not the case?

im sorry but i feel like i am answering the same questions over and over again, I am going to step away and hope someone else can understand and help you out.
