#Do Inovelli Zigbee switches act as routers when in smart bulb mode without a neutral wire?

I think this is the right forum...

I've got a couple of light and fan/light switches that don't have neutral wires due to how old our house is, and I'd like to replace them with Inovelli switches and fan/light controllers up above. I know the fan controllers should work as routers when I install those, but will the light switches do the same? The documentation on Inovelli's site isn't clear on this.

No. Without a neutral, they typically cannot act as routing devices. They need the neutral for keeping the radio on full time.

that's what I thought, though if it's in smart bulb mode, wouldn't the power be on full time regardless?

Nope. Basically that just instructs the switch to not toggle the relay.

gotcha, figured I'd ask first

I have one in smart bulb mode and non neutral it is acting as a router:

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen an inovelli switch do that when not using a neutral.

Maybe a firmware update?

🤷‍♂️ I have on my todo list to run a neutral. The no-neutral set up just feels icky

Lol yeah, makes sense. I need to do the same thing here with 4 light switches, but time…

I think I can pull a four wire with the existing line to the closest ceiling light

#

Not sure how to code that would be lol

Hahaha code? Who cares about code??? 😉 (But, yeah, that doesn’t seem up to snuff, however, in my house, that would be par for the course)

Yeah same I inherited some sketchy stuff

One night I woke up to my garage door opening and closing non stop

I cut the electrical cable 😂 and it’s still capped and I’ve yet to look into that box

SAME… house was built in the 50s and oh man… the crap I have here… lol There’s still TONS of that aluminum wrapped wiring running all through the attic and crawlspace. I’ve been replacing it as I can, but I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and have a real electrician come in and redo all of it.

Yep same deal

hell yeag, knowing this is excellent

I would run a neutral but I don't know how difficult it'd be to do in this house (this part of the house dates back to the 1850s) and idk how expensive it'd be to hire an electrician to do it
