I am in the United States, max price is 150 USD (but ideally lower), Zigbee is my ideal protocol, but Z-Wave or a WiFi standard that doesn't go through the "cloud" works too.

Literally just something that does the HVAC wiring control for me safely and can be programatically controlled. I'm trying to make a home automation system that does not touch any "clouds" or "phone homes." Amazon is seemingly not helpful and technology stores tend to only sell the ones that send your info back to their own servers like Google Nest.

You can get ecobee and remove it from having access to the internet. Then just use homekit device integration to talk to it completely locally. Love mine especially as it controls the humidifier too

And is it Zigbee/Z-Wave/Local Wifi?

Local wifi, I used to have the ecobee 3 lite and a couple years ago upgraded to the ecobee premium

How do you deny it access to the overall internet? Firewall?

Ohhhhh, is it just communicating via 802.11 but NOT connecting to a router or WAP?
