My sister's install of HA has been wishing for integration with external security cameras since pretty much day one. They were gifted a few Wyze cameras that work really well outside (having the magnetic mounts helps with this being a second floor apartment), but everything I've seen suggests Wyze labs broke the API and/or RTSP settings that were used for prior integrations with HA.

Is that still the case? If so, what's a budget friendly USB powered camera that could be magnetic mounted outside?

oh, forgot, this is a US based question, if it's really going to matter

Look into wz_mini_hacks or https://thingino.com for your wyzecams. Then they can work with rtsp and/or ONVIF. Alternatively look at the Tapo c120

Reolink may have an option

#

Can use it with their Home Hub for local storage/RTSP/ONVIF and HA integration

  • 1 for reolink i have 10 of their cameras, been using them since 2020, they have a ton of options (mine are all POE) and Reolink's HA integration is very solid

I might explore that for my personal system. I have a eufy system that I think I could integrate but I haven't gotten that far yet

i have a eufy setup on green but thinking it might not be powerful enough

# weary fog what are you planning on running HA on?

both systems are running in docker. I have a small optiplex running headless Ubuntu at my sister's place and then mine's running on a full power edge server at my place. So I have power, but I haven't done the work on the right way to give it access to my Eufy basestation yet

Yeah, I was going to be looking more into that for my place. In the meantime I'm going to be spending part of next week converting the Wyze cameras to run Thingino (once I learn their chipsets) and a Wuuk pan camera for inside also on Thingino

#

When I get the energy I'll work on integrating Eufy more into my setup at home, maybe I can come up with an option to get the doorbell to trigger HA to play something loud and annoying to wake me up

Thingino looks neat. it's been some time since I used my wyze cams and ran a couple of other custom firmware to get rtsp and local only but thinino looks more polished.

been talking to devs on their discord a lot, and they've been a huge help in me understanding the software and setup before i get started. The less time I have to mess with the outside cameras and the less time they're offline, the happier I'll be

Well, in my case, I've managed to get Thingino on one of the Wyze cams, there was a bit of a learning curve but like I said before, the devs are really helpful with my dumb butt. I still have to set up my own recording system to fully replace the cloud storage, but otherwise, I'm getting to be in pretty good shape
