Hi all,

I'm a HA noob currently. Although I am a SysAdmin so hopefully I pick this all up rather quickly. I have managed to figure out most things, but can't figure out this:

I have a 'smart plug' with the name of 'Lounge Big Fan'
I have an area called 'Lounge'
I have put said device in said area
The dashboard keeps stripping off the 'Lounge' part of the device name so on the dashboard instead of the plug appearing as 'Lounge Big Fan' it just appears as 'Big Fan'. It is stripping off the front part of the device name if it matches the associated area name

I am going to guess it is an automatic thing and is expected behaviour. However... is there anyway to disable this? I wish to see the full name of each device on the dashboard.

Unsure if that's expected or not (it is annoying though). But you can add a friendly name in the "appearance section" of a card that will display on the dashboard.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Are you referring to 'label' ? My dashboard is currently the 'automatic' one and i've just re-arranged the rooms to the order I want

No you can't change what the automatic dashboard names things.

Yeah, so you'd have to "take control" first.
