When I am trying to install the IKEA tradfri integration it is asking for the host/security code for the gateway. Is that expected? I thought HA yellow has zigbee and it will discover zigbee devices autoamtically.

You're not using Zigbee though. You still have your devices connected to your hub. If you want to use Zigbee, you'll need to unpair your devices from the Ikea hub and pair them with your HA Yellow.

Aha. If I unpair them from the hub; will they still stay connected to the remote controls or the pairing to the remote controls need to be done again?

You would need to recreate all of that.

The bindings would need to be done in ZHA (the Zigbee integration built into HA).
