oh, damn, yeah, I just tested the other speeds with a simple smart plug, and yeah, that AC noise is gone. It was honestly a case of 'I wonder if I can do this thing, it would be neat to be able to do high speed programmatically for certain situations'. It lives on low 99.9% of the time, and turning it off when I'm gone to save power was the minimal goal, which the smart plug does just fine. The rest was gravy

And we're probably going to put the KP405 on my sister's system to dim a grow tent lamp or something, so the hardware won't be wasted

Nothing wrong with experimenting, I could have been totally wrong after all. Nice if you found a solution, that still works for you.
But, and I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news again, it probably won't work for a grow lamp either ๐Ÿ™ˆ They usually have a constant current source, which just draws more amps when the voltage falls off...

maybe, maybe not. Kasa's software seems ready to process led bulbs, but it's another 5 minute test. biggest hassle would be putting it on the wifi

Right, just don't name it "My MJ grow lamp", depending on your state ๐Ÿ˜‰

I mean, but we're not allowed to grow it in the apartment. These are all tropical plants though, mostly philodendrons
