#Amazon Echo Dot v5

How can we help? What do you need?
I think once the hardware is ready I'll need help with the esphome side. That's about it. I can ship some hardware to people as well.
Unfortunately I don't think wifi signal on a module will cut it. Also need feedback on whether to have the LEDs or not since those are bottom side, so double sided assembly.
If anyone has a Dot v5 and is up for some very light disassembyl (only 4 screws), I'm curious if yours is a solid metal part as pictured in ( https://www.briandorey.com/post/echo-dot-5th-gen-smart-speaker-teardown ), or if it's all black plastic with a metal insert (this is what mine looks like).
This video shows the v5 revision I have, which is a black plastic housing mainly with a metal shield "insert" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2f3jYhCWvY
First test PCB received. I can reverse engineer the FPC cable now, and also need to adjust the physical cutouts a bit.

Reverse engineering board soldered, need to order an extra FPC for passthrough sniffing. So far I've found GND, VCC and one of the 100kHz clock lines.

Found i2s clock and signals and button control lines
WOOOW thanks for sharing this link with me @languid light
I'm on my 3rd test PCB for fitment but it's not easy.
With this announcement https://www.hackster.io/news/seeed-studio-s-respeaker-lite-and-voice-assistant-kit-offer-low-power-on-device-voice-control-25ff3cb53cd5.amp I'm not sure if I should keep working on the echo dot or not.
That's a whole different ball game if you ask me. We already had a ton of "hacked together look" devices
Hmmm. I agree but the price point from what I see for an echo dot refurb is going to be expensive
there's Casio, there's Tag Heuer and then there's Audemars Piguet 😄
