#Zigbee channel tuning
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Many people have had to - or started by picking a sane channel
I have my Zigbee set to channel 15 and my wifi set to 11. So Zigbee is on the left in the frequency spectrums and Wifi is all the way to the right.
So less interference...
Can't tell if it's helping.
I guess I can do a before an after and look a the topology map and the numbers connecting each node.
My IKEA window/door sensors are solid. The bulbs not so much. They keep losing connection.
And you've checked your neighbours channels?
Do you have enough routers, near to the end devices?
I was trying to use this to my advantage...but I think the wavelengths between the channels are close enough that is won't matter:
Waves with lower frequency (longer wavelength) have a lower chance of interaction with their medium of travel and thus will lose less energy over a given distance. This means that a longer wavelength wave will travel farther in a given medium. For example, 1 MHz, which is in the middle of the commercial AM band, has a wavelength of 300 m, while 100 MHz, which is in the middle of the commercial FM band, has a wavelength of only 3 m. 300 m is large enough so that the waves can diffract around something the size of a typical house, but the house is much larger than 3 m, so it will largely block 100 MHz signal.
Radio waves can penetrate nonconducting materials, such as wood, bricks, and concrete, fairly well. They cannot pass through electrical conductors, such as water or metals.
@ruby jungle interesting about my neighbors channels.
I don't think I can get them to change their channels. 😦
Luckily my neighbors and I are all in houses...so not as packed as apartments.
But even though I'm friendly with my neighbors, asking them to change their wifi channel would be weird.
I guess I can tune my Zigbee around their channels
@ruby jungle I have an IKEA smart bulb close to my SkyConnect.
For some reason, my window/door sensors in my Garage are solid. But an IKEA smart bulb in the garage is not. 😦
You don't need to keep tagging me
If I look at my network right now... two of them are paired to the bulb that I have locally. The other one is paired to the SkyConnect.
ZHA
Go to the device page and you can see the option there
I don't see it...
I see a list of devices...but no option to pair to a specific router
I go to the router device page...I see "Device Info", "Logbook", etc.
There's an option there somewhere
I don't see anything..."Automation", "Configuration", "Scenes", "Scripts", "Diagnostics", ...
Oh I see... "Add device VIA this device"
WHOA!!!

I mean...a lot of wifi routers are set to auto pick a channel
Set your wifi and zigbee to the same freq and force their router off that channel 🤷♂️
LOL
@ruby jungle if my Zigbee device is already connected to my ZHA. How doni switch it to connect to a Zigbee router? Do I have to delete it and then connect it to the router?
You can just re-pair it
