The easiest way would be to use an RGB can light/bulb or something else you can leave plugged in.

It's pretty difficult to miss the entire hallway being lit up red.

yeah lol it indeed is but my family doesn't enjoy the idea of not being able to normally turn on that hallway

I'd need to change the light switches too for smart ones and they don't enjoy that idea either
